The new General Data Protection Regulation or GDPR comes into full effect on May 25th 2018 and it affects how all businesses manage personal information.
It also grants the people you hold information on, the ability to request their information be deleted from your databases, and enforces companies to prove a person has opted-in for marketing communications.
The impact for B2C marketing is huge, because you are not allowed to mass market your data to ask them to opt in. You risk being fined by the ICO and they are already doing just that.
Legislation around B2B marketing also brings new challenges, as well as attention on the security processes a business has in place to allow identification of data breaches and hacking, which will count highly towards becoming GDPR compliant.
This is quite literally the tip of the iceberg. What’s important is that your business, your supply chain and your marketing activity is GDPR compliant.
